Project Summary
Bennco Engineering was requested to conduct Reverse Engineering and Refurbishment of a 38-year-old lump chute (hood) at their fabrication facility at Tom Price. The project included design, structural integrity and fabrication capabilities.

Project Scope
The Structural Integrity [S.I] component of the project was applied and the hood was sand [garnet] blasted with GMA Premium Blast TM in preparation for painting to client’s standard blue/grey and golden yellow for the safety handrails. The client visited the Bennco Engineering facility on a number of occasions to inspect and contribute to the project as it progressed through the different stages of preparation and inspection. New internal shelves were fabricated to the client’s standard and lined with the new liner. New confined space signage was posted. NDT Reports were provided for all welds. The project was completed ahead of schedule and without incident.
Solution
Due to its age and structural degeneration, the project required considerably reverse engineering considerations and associated application of current technologies, materials and operational applications. Bennco Engineering worked closely with its preferred vendor in the design process commissioning bespoke designed liners and shelves compatible with the internal dimensions of the chute and its workplace environmental conditions. The bespoke liners required specified accurate dimensions enabling a seamless design/fabrication interface thus mitigating the risk of error and cost/time imposts.
